In everyone's life comes a moment of clarity and purpose when all the tumblers in the cosmic lock fall into place and everything becomes crystal clear. For me this was the weekend of June 16th 1967. The photographs on this page are a look back in time to that magical weekend when some aof the greatest artists on planet Earth came together to create an event that has never been repeated to this day. It was not about any political agenda, or any social upheavel, it was about the music. From the fire and brimstone of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, to the haunting sitar of Ravi Shankar, everyone was transfixed by the entire vibe of that weekend. The City of Monterey put the entire police force on high alert for any trouble, by Saturday afternoon over half of them were sent home. The producers of The Monterey Pop Festival, Lou Adler and John Phillips put the entire festival together in SIX WEEKS. They had no cell phones, no computers, no fax machines, no Twitter, or Instagram. All they had was landline telephones with rotary dials and Western Union telegrams. That's quite a feat. If you would like to know the complete story about the festival, my photographs are featured in the book by Harvey Kubernik, A Perfect Haze: The Illustrated History of the International Monterey Pop Festival, available on Amazon.com. These photos are very personal to me. I've had them for almost 50 years, and now I'd like to share them with you. As you browse through them, take a minute and imagine the sights, the sounds, the love and harmony on that magical weekend so long ago...
