Mission San Juan Bautista : The Mission San Juan Bautista, named after St. John the Baptist,is the largest os all the 21 Missions in California. The Misson was founded on June 24, 1797 in the San Benito Valley, between Salinas and Hollister. The Mission has the largest Basilica (three aisles) of all the other Missions.If you've never been here, you're in for a treat! The Town of San Juan Bautista grew around the Mission had a large part of it has been preserved for the last 200 years. One can really get a glimpse of what life was like in Alta California.

Emus! : I was driving near my house one day and I saw two emus frolicking in a meadow. Now this is something you don't see everyday, so I stopped the car and got out my camera. Since I was shooting with a wide angle lens (11mm to 16 mm) I forgot how close I was to these birds until one of them reach out and clipped me upside the head! The emu is the second largest bird in the world. The largest being the ostrich. The emu stands about 6 to7 feet tall and can weigh up to 275 lbs. They are very fast, and very strong and they can rip a steel fence with their three toed feet. I learned my lesson the hard way, I now have great respect for these birds and will keep my distance.

Crepuscular Rays : Crepuscular rays ( also known as God Rays), in atmospheric optics, are rays of sunlight that appear to radiate from a single point in the sky, namely where the sun is. These rays, which stream through gaps in clouds (particularly stratocumulus) or between other objects, are columns of sunlit air separated by darker cloud-shadowed regions. The name comes from their frequent occurrences during crepuscular hours (those around dawn and dusk), when the contrasts between light and dark are the most obvious. Crepuscular comes from the Latin word crepusculum meaning twilight.

Shuttle Endeavor : The Shuttle Endeavor was the last of five Shuttles built in the fleet for NASA. Named after the ship Endeavor, which was Captain James Cook's ship that he explored the South Pacific with. This Shuttle was built in 1992 with spare parts from all the previous Shuttles. It was a replacement for the Challenger which exploded 73 seconds into its mission on January 28, 1986. These photos were taken on September 21,2012 at the NASA Ames Research Facility in Mountain View Ca. This was the Endeavor's last flight, after 25 successful missions. It was also the last flight of any Shuttle since the entire program has now ended.The Shuttle Endeavor flew on last flight from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida making flyovers in Houston, Edwards Air Base, Sacramento, San Francisco, Mountain View, Santa Cruz and Monterey, finally landing at LAX Los Angeles International. From there it will make its way to the California Space Museum as a permanent disply.
